'''옹진군'''({{llang|ko-Hani|甕津郡}})은 [[인천광역시]]의 [[군]]으로서, 서해상의 [[섬]]으로 구성되어 있다. 

흔히 서해5도라 불리는 [[연평도]], [[백령도]], [[대청도]], [[소청도]]를 포함한다. 서해5도는 [[북방한계선]](NLL) 바로 남쪽에 위치한 5개의 섬으로서 [[북한]] [[황해남도]]의 [[옹진반도]]와 근접하여 있는 군사적 요충지이다. [[해병대]]가 이곳에 주둔하고 있다. 매년 많은 [[관광]]객들이 이곳을 찾고 있다.  

== 지리 ==
섬으로만 구성된 [[군]]으로서, NLL에 가까이 붙어있는 서해5도(연평도, 백령도, 대청도, 소청도)와 경기만 일대의 덕적군도(덕적도, 소야도, 굴업도, 백아도, 울도 등)를 포함한다. 단, 서해5도 중 [[우도]]는 옹진군이 아닌 [[강화군]]에 속한다. 이들 섬 모두 산이 많고 척박한 환경이다. [[어업]]이 이곳 주민들의 주요 생계수단이다. 

군청은 옹진군(섬)이 아닌 인천항 인근의 육지(인천광역시 [[남구(인천)|남구]] 용현동)에 위치하는데, 이는 섬들 간의 여객선 노선이 부족하고 모든 섬의 여객선편이 [[인천항]]을 중심으로 짜여 있기 때문이다. 따라서 어느 한 섬에 옹진군청을 설치할 경우 다른 섬에서 옹진군청으로 가려면 이틀 이상이 소요될 수 있는 만큼, 현재의 옹진군청 위치가 최선이다.

== 정치성향 ==
군사적 요충지인 만큼 주민들이 안보에 대한 관심이 많고 보수 성향을 나타낸다. [[연평도 포격 사태]](2010년) 이후로 보수 성향은 더욱 강화되었으며 [[2012년 대선]]에서는 박근혜를 무려 71.9%의 득표율로 밀어주었다.
